Whose learning is it anyway?

Errey L. & Schollaert R. Whose learning is it anyway? Developing learner autonomy through task-based learning (syllabus serie nr. 10) Antwerpen, Garant, 2003, 157 p.

How can language learning in the formal context of the classroom contribute to the learners' communicative competence, whilst at the same time enhancing their general learning skills and preparing them for life long learning? Such a challenge is complex, as is catering to the needs of individual students in a group learning context.

This book explores ways in which a traditional task-based approach to language teaching, can be extended to help students not only to become more skilful language users, but to become more skilful learners in the process.

The approch advocated was developed by a transnational team of language teachers and experts whose shared goal was to devise a common framework for a task-based approach to language learning, supplemented with supporting materials that would work across a broad range of educational contexts. This book and the accompanying CD-ROM is the outcome of a Comenius 2.1 project that goes under the acronym TABASCO (Task based school organisation for the acquisition of languages in Europe).
